Defi View reads public blockchain data about wallet addresses you give it, and records how the site itself is used so we can tell which parts work. This page says exactly what that second part stores.

What we record when you visit

On your first request we set one cookie, dv_vid, containing a random identifier. It is not derived from anything about you or your device — it is a random number, and its only job is to let us tell a returning visit from a new one. It lasts about thirteen months and is HttpOnly, so page scripts cannot read it.

Against that identifier we store:

  • Which pages you opened, how far down you scrolled, which sections and cards you looked at, and which buttons you pressed.
  • Where you arrived from — the referring site and any campaign parameters in the link you followed.
  • Your browser, operating system and device type, and your country, all read from information your browser already sends with every request.
  • A hash of your IP address, never the address itself. See below.
  • Wallet addresses you ask the site to analyse, and the results we compute.
  • If you have an account: your email address, and the wallets you save.

Your IP address

We do not store your IP address. What we store is a SHA-256 hash of it combined with a secret salt held only on our server. That lets us recognise two visits as coming from the same connection without keeping the address, and it cannot be reversed without the salt.

The salt matters: an unsalted hash of an IP address can be reversed by simply hashing every possible address, which is only a few billion values. If no salt is configured, the software stores nothing in that field rather than storing a hash that would be personal data wearing a disguise.

How long we keep it

  • Individual events — the detailed record of what was clicked and when — are deleted after 90 days by an automatic daily job.
  • Summaries — visit counts, session lengths, which step a visit reached — are kept longer, because deleting them would rewrite our own history of how the site performed.
  • Account data is kept while the account exists.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or share this data with anyone, and there are no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking scripts on this site. The data goes to our own server and stays there.
  • We do not track you across other websites.
  • We do not ask for, and cannot access, your private keys or seed phrase. Analysing a wallet needs only its public address.
  • We do not store your IP address, as described above.

Others who see your requests

Traffic to this site passes through Cloudflare, which sits in front of our server and handles it before we do. We read two things from what Cloudflare tells us: your country, and your connecting IP address, which we then hash as described above.

Analysing a wallet means asking public blockchain data providers about that address. Those providers see the address being asked about — they do not see who asked.

Your choices

Blocking or clearing the dv_vid cookie stops us recognising your visits; the site works normally without it. Blocking JavaScript, or any content blocker, prevents the event records described above from being sent at all.

If you have an account and want its data removed, ask us and we will delete it. To ask about anything on this page, or to request a copy or deletion of what we hold, message @DeFi_View_Bot on Telegram.
